Three Americans escaped after fierce fighting between Al Qaeda militias and Algerian troops left dead 30 hostages and more than 10 Al Qaeda militias. According to Algerian state television two British and two Japanese were among the dead.
Algeria’s Communication Minister, Mohamed Said said the government troops stormed the building after negotiations with the kidnappers failed.
Al Qaeda militias in Algeria kidnapped nearly 50 foreign workers and 50 Algerians who were at Algerian natural gas facility. According to reports from Algeria, about 10 Americans were among the hostages.
