(Before It's News)

Negotiations with Maritime Minister brought no results. Greek seamen union PNO decided on Tuesday morning to extend their strike for another 48 hours. Ferries and ships will remain docked also on February 6th and 7th 2013, that is until February 8th, 6 o’ clock in the morning.

Maritime Minister Kostis Mousouroulis told media this morning that he had “thorough negotiations with the seamen union,” and that he was expected ‘reasoning to prevail”. He even mentioned the option of civil mobilization for the seamen, stressing “we cannot close our ears to the people on the islands.”

With seamen on the fourth day of strike, residents remain “trapped” on the islands, they cannot get supplies, while the farmers complain about sensitive agricultural products going bad.

The seamen demand among other that shipping companies pay them outstanding wages totalling almost 20 million euro.

The decision of whether the government will apply ‘civil mobilization’ to seamen as it did with the metro workers is up to the prime minister.
