George Clooney is not only inside the famous coffee shop… he has also allegedly joined the campaign for the return of the Parthenon Marbles, Greek media report cheering Clooney’s support to the Greek cause.
“It’s a fair request,” George Clooney responded to a question posed by a Greek journalist during the press conference about his latest film “The Monuments Men” in Berlin on Saturday.
“Should the Parthenon Marbles be returned to Greece?” the journalist asked and Clooney replied:
“I think you have a very good case to make about your artifacts.
Maybe it wouldn’t be a bad thing if they were returned. I think that is a good idea.
‘I think that would be a very fair and very nice thing. Yeah, I think it is the right thing to do.”

Clooney’s reply was welcome with applaud.
The question for the return of the Parthenon Marbles was related to the theme of the film The Monuments Men , the true story of a group of Americans experts in arts, who join the army after the WWII and land in Europe in order to save various important works of art that were stolen by the Nazis from various European countries.
The Parthenon Marbles were stolen from the Acropolis by British Lord Elgin – an ambassador to Ottoman court of the Sultan in Istanbul -. They were brought to London without authorities permission and were handed to the British Museum in 1816.
A British Museum spokeswoman said told The Indepedent ‘anybody is entitled to their view’ but the museum’s trustees had ‘always been very clear that they feel there’s a public benefit to having the sculptures in our collection remain part of our collection’.
