(Before It's News)

“There is strong evidence for the existence of significant hydrocarbon deposits in areas of Western Greece and the Ionian Sea,” Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras said Wednesday. He added that within 25-30 years the public can gain tax revenues of 150 billion euro.

Antonis Samaras was attending the opening of the so-called “data room” at the Greek Einvironment Ministry, where interested investors can have access to the results of seismic surveys of the Norwegian company PGS.

Samaras described the picture of hydrocarbon research findings as a “starting point of good news for the future” and said there were strong indications that within 25-30 years the public can gain tax revenue of 150 billion euros.

The prime minister said that especially for the Ionian region of Western Greece and the data is more advanced, while the processing of data for the area south of Crete continues.

Analyzing the country’s strategy for the hydrocarbon part, the Prime Minister stressed that Greece can play an important role both in the part of the hydrocarbons production  and also  in the part of its transportation and become an energy hub .

“Greece can become a large energy hub” Antonis Samaras stressed.

PS for a moment I was scared we would have the 150-billion-euro revenues tomorrow, and we get rich all of a sudden and will not be able to psychologically deal with the issue.
