NIAC
Members, Ambassadors, and Board Members in Irvine, California met with
Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, former Chief of Staff to U.S. Secretary of
State Colin Powell at a NIAC Fundraiser Gala held on May 5, 2012.
Wilkerson has criticized many aspects of the Iraq War, including his own preparation of Powell’s presentation to the UN
where his goal was to “prove” the urgency to engage a war with Iraq.
When asked about his decision to speak out, Wilkerson said: “Combine
the detainee abuse issue with the ineptitude of post-invasion planning
for Iraq, wrap both in this blanket of secretive decision-making…and
you get the overall reason for my speaking out.”
For
more than a decade, some of the same forces that pushed for an Iraq war
have openly led efforts to convince Washington and the American people
that war with Iran is necessary and inevitable.
Colonel Wilkerson captivated NIAC audience members in Irvine with his
insider’s perspective on the motivations and politics behind U.S.
foreign policy.
Thank you to our Irvine area members, Ambassadors, and Board Members for making this event a great success!
