“Wars frequently begin ten years before the first shot is fired” ~ K.K.V. Casey

War with Iran has already begun. Here are four reasons why this is so:

1. The U.S. has violated Iran’s territorial sovereignty

In December 2011, Iran captured a stealth aircraft fitted with reconnaissance equipment flying over their country, which was later shown on Iranian television and identified as a drone missing from America’s arsenal. Later in the month, the United States asked Iran return the drone; however, Iran denied the request after the United States refused to offer an official apology (although they did humorously offer to send President Obama a tiny pink replica of the drone).

If Iran flew an unmanned spy drone over New York, over California, or even over the Pentagon, how would such an action be interpreted by the United States? Does it seem likely that the Obama Administration (or any administration) would just shrug and brush it off?

Violations of territorial sovereignty are anything but a trivial matter, and have historically been a cause of war in a large variety of instances.

2. The U.S. has launched a massive anti-Iranian propaganda campaign

So early as 2002, Iran was accused by the Bush Administration as being member to the so-called “Axis of Evil“, along with North Korea and Iraq, when President Bush said that “by seeking weapons of mass destruction, these regimes pose a grave and growing danger.”

Later that year, according to former Israeli intelligence director Uzi Arad, who served as Benjamin Netanyahu’s foreign policy adviser, Bush officials suggested that once they established a military presence in Iraq, it will enable the United States to “handle the Iranians from closer quarters“.

Also during the Bush years, media outlets such as the Washington Post pushed the idea that Iran is eager to create nuclear weapons, neglecting openly expressed doubt and contrary evidence provided by the Central Intelligence AgencyFormer Secretary of State Colin Powell, and the United Nation’s International Atomic Energy Agency.

Regardless, such propaganda continued under the Obama Administration, which came into office seeking out an alleged policy of “direct diplomacy” with Iran.

And, in late 2011, Obama officials claimed that Iran was involved in a “terror plot” to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the United States, even though the “mastermind” behind the plot was a “failed used car salesman from Texas” with a history of money problems, and throughout the entire operation, “the government’s confidential sources were monitored and guided by federal law enforcement agents, no explosives were actually ever placed anywhere, and no one was actually ever in any danger“, as reported by Glenn Greenwald.
