ISRAELI diplomats and Jewish leaders have expressed outrage at plans by pro-Palestinian activists to rally on the day set aside by Iranian revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomenei for supporters around the world to call for the destruction of the Jewish state.
Activists will tomorrow mount an overtly anti-Israel protest, for the first time joining the international Al-Quds Day movement proclaimed by Khomenei in 1979.
Speakers at the Sydney rally are to include the imam of Sydney’s Nabi Akram mosque, Sheik Zaid Alsalami, Catholic priest Father Dave Smith, Free Gaza Australia member Michael Coleman and pro-Palestinian activists Toni Borso, Jamal Daoud and Hussein al-Dirani — the last of whom will address the crowd in Arabic.
Protesters will gather in Hyde Park, before marching to the US consulate.
Mr al-Dirani said the rally would be a peaceful expression of support for all oppressed people, including not just Palestinians but Burmese and Syrians.
