(Before It's News)

DEBKAfile was founded by a team of journalists in June 2000 as an independent Internet Web site, providing an intelligence and security news service. February 4, 2016, 4:16 PM (IDT)

A UN committee will announce on Friday that it has ruled that Julian Assange, the Australian jounalist who founded “Wikileaks,” is being arbitrarily detained, reports said Thursday. Assange was granted asylum at the embassy of Ecuador in London in 2012 after the Swedish police requested his extradition on suspicion of sexual assault. Some reports have said the request is based on a desire by the US to arrest Assange over his activities related to the “Wikileaks” website, which published secret US government documents. In a twitter post on Thursday, Assange said he would leave the embassy and surrender to British police on Friday if the UN panel rules against him.

Our unique angle on these subjects – and strong intelligence dimension – has earned DEBKAfile a global reputation and a steady readership – which skyrockets in times of crisis.
