DEBKAfile was founded by a team of journalists in June 2000 as an independent Internet Web site, providing an intelligence and security news service. April 17, 2016, 10:58 AM (IDT)
DEBKAfile's sources report Sunday that Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu called US Secretary of State John Kerry last Wednesday (April 13) and asked him whether he seriously believes that the most urgent issue concerning Syria is Israel's Golan Heights. He was referring to a decision by Washington and Moscow to include a clause calling for the return of the Golan to Syria in a draft proposal at the Geneva talks on Syria's future.
Netanyahu also said that the decision by the US and Russia had undermined the situation in southern Syria after US, Jordanian and Israeli military operations had stabilized the area. The prime minister referred to an attack by the Syrian rebels on the Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade, which has sworn allegiance to ISIS, near the triangular area where the Syrian, Israeli and Jordanian borders meet. Our sources said Kerry preferred not to respond to Netanyahu's comment.
Our unique angle on these subjects – and strong intelligence dimension – has earned DEBKAfile a global reputation and a steady readership – which skyrockets in times of crisis.
