DEBKAfile was founded by a team of journalists in June 2000 as an independent Internet Web site, providing an intelligence and security news service. May 25, 2016, 8:18 AM (IDT)
Satellite pictures released by Britain's BBC on Tuesday showed widescale destruction at Tiyas air force base (also known as T4) adjacent to Palmyra in northern Syria. The pictures show that Russian warplanes, attack helicopters and dozens of supply trucks were destroyed. After analyzing the pictures, DEBKAfile's intelligence sources said ISIS commandos infiltrated the base, planted bombs under the aircraft, blew them up by remote comtrol and fled. According to the Russian media, official military sources in Moscow denied that the destruction was the result of an attack, saying fires that spread caused explosions that destroyed the helicopter squadron.
Our unique angle on these subjects – and strong intelligence dimension – has earned DEBKAfile a global reputation and a steady readership – which skyrockets in times of crisis.
