DEBKAfile was founded by a team of journalists in June 2000 as an independent Internet Web site, providing an intelligence and security news service. November 24, 2016, 5:37 PM (IDT)
More than 80 people were killed and dozens of others were injured on Thursday at a checkpoint in Hilla, about 100 kilometers south of the Iraqi capital, when an ISIS suicide bomber blew up the truck packed with explosives he was driving. The checkpoint was full of people returning from a Shiite ceremony in the city of Karbala, and most of them were apparently Iranians. A statement by the terrorist organization claimed that 200 people were killed when the truck exploded in an area with dozens of buses packed with Shiites.
Our unique angle on these subjects – and strong intelligence dimension – has earned DEBKAfile a global reputation and a steady readership – which skyrockets in times of crisis.
