US President Donald Trump has ramped up his attacks on the Seattle federal judge who blocked his temporary ban on the entry of nationals from seven Muslim terrorist-prone states, after a federal appeals court Saturday refused to reinstate the ban. He tweeted that “if something happens, blame the courts.”
The White House and the two US states which challenged the ban have until Monday to present more arguments. Until then, it is on hold and visa holders from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen will be allowed to enter the US until the full case has been heard and resolved.
Trump has meanwhile instructed border officials to check people entering America “very carefully”.
If the appeals court decides the stay is valid – perhaps as early as next week – then a Supreme Court appeal is almost certain. Against the argument that his action was unconstitutional, the White House maintains that the president is fully authorized to decide who can enter or stay in the US on security grounds.
Our unique angle on these subjects – and strong intelligence dimension – has earned DEBKAfile a global reputation and a steady readership – which skyrockets in times of crisis.
