DEBKAfile was founded by a team of journalists in June 2000 as an independent Internet Web site, providing an intelligence and security news service. February 1, 2017, 11:33 AM (IDT)
First police officers began entering Amona homes Wednesday in the operation to evacuate the 11-year old hilltop Jewish farming outpost by the end of the day, in keeping with an Israeli High Court ruling. They appealed to residents to leave quietly of their own accord. Some complied with the request; others were reinforced by some 500 supporters from outside the village, who barricaded themselves inside some homes to slow the evacuation. Some 1,000 police officers are taking part in the operation, including a large number of policewomen. They were not armed with firearms or crowd control equipment. Mounted police waited at a distance from Amona.
Our unique angle on these subjects – and strong intelligence dimension – has earned DEBKAfile a global reputation and a steady readership – which skyrockets in times of crisis.
