(Before It's News)

DEBKAfile was founded by a team of journalists in June 2000 as an independent Internet Web site, providing an intelligence and security news service. March 30, 2017, 7:31 PM (IDT)

The US Justice Department issued a special announcement on Wednesday saying that a senior State Department employee had been arrested the previous day on suspicion of espionage for Chinese intelligence. The suspect is Candace Clairborne, a 60-year-old resident of Washington who has served in Baghdad, Khartoum, Beijing and Shanghai during her career with department since 1999. She has a top secret security clearance. Clairborne is now suspected of contact with foreign agents, making false statements to the FBI, endangering sensitive government data, obstructing an official proceeding and accepting tens of thousands of dollars in cash. She pleaded not guilty on Wednesday at a Washington court. Clairborne faces up to 20 years in a federal prison if convicted.

Our unique angle on these subjects – and strong intelligence dimension – has earned DEBKAfile a global reputation and a steady readership – which skyrockets in times of crisis.
