Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday that his country's ties with the US would not be strongly affected by President Donald Trump's statements that Russia bears partial responsibility for Tuesday's deadly gas attack in Syria. He said disagreements, including profound ones, have been a constant part of US-Russia relations in recent years and that is why significant points of contention over Syria cannot have a major effect on bilateral ties. Still, Moscow believes that “a more balanced approach is necessary”, Peskov said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Rybakov said “We insist, and we state this with full confidence, that no chemical weapons were used in any form, be it toxic substances, be it homemade chemicals like chlorine, which were allegedly used by someone and at some point in Syria”.
Our unique angle on these subjects – and strong intelligence dimension – has earned DEBKAfile a global reputation and a steady readership – which skyrockets in times of crisis.
