When I was living in Bucharest, I was saving coins and small bills (25¢ ish) for charity purpose.
I hoped to give it to someone “authentic” directly but because I didn’t really know who was deceptive and who really needs it, I asked my translator (born in Romania) to decide who to give it because she is 120% trustworthy.
2 days before my departure, I counted the coins. It was only 50 lei (14.5$). I was shocked, I thought I saved more. I was ashamed of myself.
After all, she chose a charity group “Save the Children in Romania”.
The money was sent to the educational sector. The program is to provide educational services and social assistance, legal and mental support to prevent children from dropout due to the disadvantaged backgrounds.

I’m still saving coins and something in Arad too.
I don’t do this because it looks cool. I do this because I must do.
As we know, Romania is not the richest country in the world. Children can’t choose where to be born in, can’t choose their parents. It’s extremely unfair that the given condition decides their lives almost completely, and it’s such a loss of the talent for the entire world too. We are not born to be prisoners of the jail called country, poverty, and prejudice. We shall end the period of taking advantage of people who have few cards.
This is not only for the children in Romania. It’s for Japanese too. I deeply, and painfully understand how borders isolate us and keep us on “fire”. It jails us physically, legally, financially, and mentally for someone to milk us.
You are born. You walk straight. You try to cross the border and get arrested. Why ? It’s because the border security would be fired or arrested if they don’t arrest you. Violence and fear are the rule of the world and I haven’t signed on the contract to deal with it. I shall do what I can do, step by step.
Some people may say immigrants cause mess. That is not correct. Immigrants from “developed” countries (compared to the accepting country) provide skills, knowledge, foreign currency, and employment. Everything has dark side and bright side. There is also bright side when they emigrate to the “richer” country but I shouldn’t deliver a lecture here.
I received the bank receipt but can’t disclose it because it contains personal information.
Unfortunately I have no means to evaluate how efficient the charity is though it is YOUR donation through me. I will continue to research the best way.
Iori Mochizuki Fukushima Diary plans to research Svalbard as a temporary / permanent shelter. It will be in one month from now but there is least budget now. The planned term is 2 weeks. The estimate of the cost is 5,000 €. It would be a great help if you consider supporting it. Thank you.
