In order to control the increasing contaminated water, Tepco is trying to install the multiple nuclide removing system ALPS (Advanced Liquid Processing System).
On 6/15/2013, Tepco found the possible leakage from ALPS. The system was still in the test operation. Tepco was planning to discharge the contaminated water after processed by APLS with the approval of Fukushima Prefectual Federation of Fishries Co-operative Associations.
At 23:00 (JST), Tepco employee found brown drops on the pan to stock the possible leaking water. They also found the discolored part on the weld line of the tank.
They measured 7,900 CPM on the discolored part of the weld line and also 4,300 CPM on the brown drops of the pan.
Because it was 700 CPM on not-discolored part of the weld line and 1,300 CPM on the rest part of the pan, they assume the concentrated salt water is directly leaking from ALPS.
Tepco started the stopping process of this leaking part at 18:17 of 6/16/2013 but it takes 6 hours to completely stop the system.
