It was 4 times on 7/21/2014, but increased to 11 times on 7/22, 50 times on 7/23, and 148 times on 7/24/2014.
Gunma prefecture entirely closed National Route 292 from 9:00 AM of 7/24/2014.
At 8:30 AM of 7/26/2014, they decided to partially open it from 8:30 to 17:00 only for vehicles.
Japan Meteorological Agency had raised the eruption warning level this June. Having the warning level escalated, Gunma prefecture was actually putting the partial traffic restriction on National Route 929 since then.
The last eruption was phreatic eruptions in 1983, but the volcanic activity has been increasing since 311. Inflation of the volcanic edifice has also been observed this year.
