(Before It's News)

“If you can’t choose the way you serve, are you free? No. You’re enslaved when your government tells you what you can do.” These were the wise words spoken by an American Government Professor at LDS Business College at our weekly YAL meeting. All of the students in the meeting were united in agreement as we discussed the necessity of the Constitution and how it is more than an outdated document.

Together we learned about negative rights and the role they play in defining the rights the government have. Indeed, the Constitution exists to protect our rights of life, liberty, and property. When the government exists to ‘protect’ us in any further capacity, our society becomes less free in consequence.

It was a great experience to discuss the basics of our Constitution and its purpose to protect our liberty.
