A stranded ten-meter whale was found dead at Sinar Laut Beach in Cianjur, West Java, on Thursday.
The six-ton carcass was discovered by local fishermen, who reported the finding to the Sinar Laut Babinsa [the Indonesian Army’s community affairs personnel] at around 8 a.m, Antara news agency reported.
The army then decided to pull the black whale onto the beach, said Second Lieut. Assistant Muzakir.
It is thought that the whale died one or two hours before being found, given that the carcass was still in a good condition.
Local authorities have coordinated with the Natural Conservation Agency and the Marine and Fisheries Agency to determine the cause of the death.
