The Economic Observer newspaper in mainland China was closed by Beijing officials Monday because of its reporting on the death toll of the floods that recently devastated the Chinese capital. All copies of the newspaper were taken away from sellers. A report from Radio France Internationale revealed that according to an insider… the Economic Observer was closed because it set up another newspaper in another city that belonged to so-called “illegal publications”. The report went on to say that this incident was a form of political revenge and “selective enforcement”. All this started after the Economic Observer published an investigation on the Fangshan district in Beijing which suffered severe flooding. It revealed that local authorities built property on the flood diversion zone, blocking the water flow and worsening flooding. On Saturday, the Economic Observer reported that three people were missing in Fangshan, but their names were excluded from the official name list. The report highlighted questions about the accuracy of the official death toll of 77. For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ on.fb.me
