(Before It's News)

A US team says it's discovered the SS Terra Nova, a polar exploration ship that sunk off the coast of Greenland in September 1943 after carrying Captain Robert Scott to the South Pole. The Schmidt Ocean Institute says its survey team found the whaler while testing echo sounders off the southern coast of Greenland. The SS Terra Nova famously carried a British exploration team led by Robert Falcon Scott to the South Pole in 1910. The men successfully reached the South Pole but all five froze to death during their walk over the Ross Ice Shelf. The SS Terra Nova sank after hitting an iceberg while carrying supplies during World War II.
