HSBC won a court ruling on Monday that cleared the way for police to forcibly remove Occupy Hong Kong protesters from the courtyard at the base of the bank's Asian headquarters. The court order came after nine months of Occupy protests in the area. The Occupy HK protesters have been given till August 27 to strike their camp and leave—or they will be forcibly removed. Some of the protesters have vowed to stay anyway. [Wong Hin Yan, Occupy Protester]: “We are not going to move, but I don't want to talk about it because I made a statement already at Friday's press conference.” [Ian Nin, Occupy HK protester]: “The plan hasn't changed. We are eagerly anticipating the arrival of the security guards and police. We'll be here waiting for them.” The plaza was home to around 100 protesters at the peak of the movement, although only around 10 activists remain now. The Hong Kong movement attracted students, young professionals, activists, the unemployed and the homeless, as well as victims of the Lehman Brothers mini-bond scandal, who faced massive losses when the New York-based investment bank filed for bankruptcy in 2008.
