Days after a mudslide swamped a construction camp near a hydropower station in Sichuan province, the true extent of the damage is being disputed. The Construction Camp No. 3 in Mianning County serves the Jinping hydropower station, and houses around 10000 workers. A reporter from Guangdong based Nanfang Daily, Tang Bo, posted on his microblog last Thursday that hundreds of people have been buried at the camp, and locals are urging for emergency help. NTD called the Jinping Hydropower station on Saturday to find out more. [Staff at Jinping Hydropower Station, Liangshan, Sichuan] “Uh..I can't talk about this with you, there are a lot of places with mudslides here, I don't know which one you are asking about specifically. Sorry, I cannot give you information here, we're all very busy.” The mudslides have now stopped, and state-run media reports that 10 people died in the mudslide, another 14 are missing. But locals have posted these pictures online showing the devastation. Netizens are also contesting the official death toll. Authorities have restricted reporting by local media on the mudslides. On Sunday, online-based rights group Canyu reported Liangshan police have approached Tang Bo, the Nanfang Daily reporter, asking him to change or remove his online posts about the severity of the mudslide.
