(Before It's News)

In the lead up to 18th Party Congress, dissidents of all stripes and colors have been arrested and put in detention in the midst of a large security sweep that started as far back as last year. Amnesty International reports at least 130 people have been rounded up and put in secret, extralegal prisons, and they're subject to harsh jail terms. One such example, as reported by the Minghui website is the case of Tian Xiaoping. Minghui reports the Chinese Communist Party's persecution of the Falun Gong spiritual practice. 51-year-old Tian was abducted from her home in Northwest China last November. In May, she was sentenced to a 14-year prison term, along with two others who were given 11 and 13-year sentences. Minghui reports that prosecutors produced no evidence against her during the trial. Tian's sentencing underscores a growing rift between the Chinese regime's totalitarian methods of control and the public's desire for greater personal and spiritual freedoms.
