A new breed of pink fluorescent fish attracts visitors at Taiwan's annual aqua pet expo. And some are willing to pay a hefty price to own this one-of-a-kind fish. Full story: Taiwan's latest genetically engineered fluorescent fish are the latest trend in aquarium fashion. They're being showcased at the Taiwan International Aquarium Expo in Taipei. [Alice Lin, Visitor]: “They are so beautiful, the pink color is very pretty, it is romantic and elegant. They look like angels descending from heaven.” The new fish genotypes of cichlid and angelfish, nicknamed “pink princess” and “pink angel”, took more than three years to research and develop. [Ou Mei-ju, Jy Lin Trading Co., Ltd]: “When we first started the transgenic process, it seemed successful under the microscope, but as they grow up we realized the genes could not be inherited, so we had to start all over again, we kept on trying. Then when the fluorescent genes were successfully passed on, we thought the color was not as pink as we wanted. It required our propagation techniques to eventually make them appear the pink color now.” The new breed glows in daylight, unlike its previous generations, whose fluorescent shine was only visible under ultraviolet lamps. The fish will be available for the market in two years and while each fish costs up to nearly $3500 USD, some believe there will be a demand from fish lovers. [Chen Mei-hua, Visitor]: “I believe there are many people who will buy it, because this is very advanced
