An official Barbie-themed cafe has opened in downtown Taipei. Full story: It's a Barbie world at a new cafe in downtown Taipei. At the new Barbie Cafe, pictures of the famous fashion doll can be seen throughout the restaurant's 7100 square foot space along with a noticeable amount of pink. The new Barbie Cafe opened on Wednesday (January 30). It's the first official one of its kind, licensed by Mattel. After many years of planning and near $1.7 million dollars of investments, customers can now enjoy desserts dressed with Barbie icons around pink tables and corset chairs with tutus. [Henry Chiu, Sinlaku Taiwan President]: “Every little girl has a Barbie in childhood, Barbie is a dream for a little girl, we want to make girls' dreams come true, and build a fantasy world for them.” And the early reviews are good. Shiao Yu visited the restaurant as soon as it opened. [Shiao Yu, 30-year-old Housewife]: “I feel like a Barbie doll in a fairy tale world, and I feel like a princess. It's very dreamy.” Dishes here come with labels so customers know how many calories they're eating. And it's open for lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. The experience won't set you back too much either; a meal costs about 300 Taiwan dollars, or about $10 USD.
