(Before It's News)

Antikythera Mechanism, recovered in 1901 by the Greek sponge divers is now in limelight again due to its impressive knowledge of astronomy. Dating to the first century B.C., this computer stands as one of the most exciting archeological discoveries ever made. The person who brought this into limelight again is a well-known scientist and researcher- Harry Coumnas. It is the world’s first computer which was recovered from a shipwreck – crammed inside, obscured by corrosion are traces of technology that appears utterly modern with a triangular teeth like of a clock. The mechanism of the computer attracted Harry to research and decodes the analogy behind this.

For decades after divers retrieved these scraps from the Antikythera wreck from 1900 to 1901, scholars were unable to make sense of them. The X-ray imaging in the 1970s and 1990s revealed that the device must have replicated the motions of the heavens. “Holding it in your hands, you could track the paths of the Sun, Moon and planets with impressive accuracy”, Harry Coumnas added.
