11:11, Biblical Prophecy and the 11th Hour Workers
by Mandy Peterson
Many people from all walks of life have begun to see 11:11 in various places, especially on their digital clocks, phones and computers. As this begins to happen more frequently, many of us may begin to ask ourselves “What does this mean?” and “Why am I seeing this now?”
If you still do not know what the 11:11 phenomenon is, it occurs when a person begins to feel drawn to look at the clock whenever it is 11:11. The phenomenon may start with the number 11 but can extend to seeing other numbers combinations such as 1:11, 2:22, 3:33, 12:12, etc. Happening often enough, it begins to feel synchronistic. This synchronicity usually provokes the person who is noticing this phenomenon to search for answers or to feel they are being guided by angels or a supernatural force. Because people can begin to wake in the night to see some of these number combinations, it is also linked to being a “wake up call.”
While there are many explanations for the phenomenon, I’m surprised that one cannot find much information on the internet connecting it to biblical prophecy and the 11th hour parable in the Book of Matthew (for those who are unfamiliar with the parable, it is Matthew 20, KJV). Here is what it says of the 11th hour (Matthew 20: 6-7):
And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, ‘Why stand ye here all the day idle?’ They say unto him, ‘Because no man hath hired us.’ He saith unto them, ‘Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive.’
According to Ellen G. White, during the “11th hour”:
“The old truths will be presented, but they will be seen in a new light. There will be a new perception of truth, a clearness and a power that all will discern. Those who have the privilege of sitting under such a ministry will, if susceptible to the Holy Spirit’s influence, feel the energizing power of a new life. The fire of God’s love will be kindled within them. Their perceptive faculties will be quickened to discern the beauty and majesty of truth.” ~ Christ’s Object Lessons, Ellen G. White, pp. 130-131.
Ellen G. White is part of the movement known as the Seventh-day Adventists. These Adventists focus on a specific aspect of biblical prophecy that focuses on the time of Judgment (the second phase when those who are living are judged). During the last hour before Judgment (the 11th hour), many laborers will be called into God’s service (to work in his vineyard) to teach others what they have learned. So, this is how the 11th hour got its fame for being the last moment to atone or to choose a different path before it is too late and there is no longer the opportunity. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the 11th hour indicates:
“: the latest possible time before it is too late “
While there are many new-age sites pointing that 11:11 is an activation to ascension, the parable of Matthew (20:16) reminds us that not all who are “called” are “chosen”. According to biblical sources on the internet, of those who receive the 11th hour call to work in God’s vineyard, those who are “chosen” become part of the 144,000 who are “sealed” (in the Book of Revelation) to protect them from harm during the tribulation:
‘After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree. Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea: “Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God.” ~ Revelation 7: 1 – 3
Here is what www.gotquestions.org has to say about the 144000:
The 144,000 Jews are a sort of “first fruits” (Revelation 14:4) of a redeemed Israel which has been previously prophesied (Zechariah 12:10; Romans 11:25-27), and their mission seems to be to evangelize the post-rapture world and proclaim the gospel during the tribulation period. As a result of their ministry, millions-“a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language” (Revelation 7:9)-will come to faith in Christ.
So, the appearance of 11:11 (occurring during an 11th hour), likely are synchronistic prompts that call those who are to be “hired” as servants of God (who are able to see the truth) into spiritual service and atonement (at-one-ment); i.e. coming back into divine alignment with God. This is probably why people start seeing 11:11 when they begin to wake up spiritually. Many of them also feel compelled to communicate and enlighten others.
