Before I began writing The Chakra Energy Diet, I had a long learning curve where nutrition is concerned. If you’ve read my personal story in The Chakra Diaries and Chakra Secrets, you’ll know that my weight seesawed up and down along with my insecurities, romantic dramas, self-confidence, and mindfulness. A health scare led me to start my nutrition education and to understand that I needed to love my body, at every moment, unconditionally.
When faced with surgery for an ovarian cyst, I decided to listen and learn about a whole foods Macrobiotic diet. I immersed myself in a six-month cooking and counseling program and began eating “real” foods, not packaged “food-like” products. When I checked back with my physician three months later, he said the first ultrasound must have been in error, because there was now no sign of a cyst or of a hormonal imbalance. I had heard many anecdotes of “spontaneous remissions” of all kinds of problems among my new Macrobiotic friends, so I was not as surprised as my doctor.
“Let food be thy medicine” began to make sense to me.
Munching on bright orange carrot sticks had become my replacement for less than healthy snack foods. I realized it was no coincidence that I craved orange foods – orange is the color of the Sacral Chakra, associated with gynecological problems.
I integrated my newfound nutrition knowledge into my chakra balancing practice. In this book, I also recommend you eat “real,” “clean” food that contains the energy you need to keep up your vitality and health, replacing processed and refined foods – physical stressors that can keep you locked in a never-ending cycle of binging and dieting.
