The majority of Israeli Jews would support apartheid regime in Israel

(Before It's News)

A survey that was published on Haaretz website showed that the majority of Israeli Jews would support apartheid in Israel. The survey also showed views that are anti-Arab and are ultra-nationalist. The survey puts the light on two points: one is what would it look like if the West Bank is annexed to Israel and the second is about the Israeli Jews view of the Arab citizens that are living inside Israel.

The survey was conducted by Dialog and was commissioned by the Yisraela Goldblum Fund. 59 percent wants preference for Jews over Arabs in admission to jobs in government ministries. Almost half, 49 percent want the state to treat Jewish citizens better than Arab ones. 74 percent want separate roads for Israelis and Palestinians in the West Bank. Almost half 47 percent want the Israeli’s Arab population to be transferred to the Palestinian Authority. Many other questions were asked. Many were also surprised to learn these facts and considered it a shock to know that this is what the majority think today inside Israel.

I wasn’t surprised when I read this article and I was expecting such results. It is clear that the current Israeli government that is led by the right wing in Israel and works day by day to increase the building of settlements, minding any political process with the Palestinians and pushing the world to think only about what it claims to be the “Iranian threat”. Such a climate with such a kind of politics will make it seem more than justified to hold an apartheid regime that already exists in Israel. East Jerusalem is under daily attack when talking about the Palestinian residents, the West Bank is suffering day by day economically and also from lack of freedom of movement because of the presence of more than 600 thousand Israeli settlers within it. Just a couple of days ago Israeli Prime Minister stated proudly that his government will continue to expand the building of settlements in East Jerusalem since Israeli considers Jerusalem…all of Jerusalem the capital of Israel.

Such a situation would only alarm us of the worse that would come in the near future. The two states solution is dying because of the failure of the peace process and the determination of the Israeli leadership to keep on holding the Palestinian lands for any price. Such a survey gives us a smaller image of how things would look like after five or ten years when it will be impossible to create any kind of a Palestinian state in the 1967 occupied lands and then both the Palestinians and the Israelis will be facing a new reality that includes a Palestinian demand for equality and basic rights that will definitely be refused by Israel. In such a scenario the situation will be similar to South Africa in the apartheid period and we will find ourselves in a new conflict.

It is clear that Israel today wants to keep on holding the Palestinian occupied lands because of the benefit that it gets out of it whether it is the settlements, the control of the Palestinian economy or even the security card that is played very well to spend more than half of the Israeli budget on the army and to keep the weapons industry alive. What makes this strategy not perfect is the later outcome that it will bring to Israel and its people that the majority of it today think it is even possible to live in such terms that they are asking for in this survey.
