Weekly Commentary: Silence of human rights groups on abuse of Palestinian
civilians by the storage in and launching of rockets from neighborhoods
Dr. Aaron Lerner Date: 6 December 2012
Palestinian Centre for Human Rights: “Warns of the dangers caused by
continued manufacturing or storage of explosive devices by Palestinian
resistance groups in civilian-populated areas, which threaten the lives of
Palestinian civilians and violate international humanitarian law.”
That’s what PCHR wrote back on 12 June 2009 after 8 Palestinians, including
a child, were killed and more than 40 were injured by Palestinian weapons
that exploded in Beit Lahia.
Why is PCHR silent today on this issue?
The situation certainly hasnt improved.
If anything it has gotten worse.
Many of the rockets launched from Gaza in the latest round of conflict were
stored in and fired from residential neighborhoods.
I contacted PCHR for comment but they never replied.
Ditto for some radical American “Peace” (as in “rest in peace” for Israel?)
groups and UNRWA .
By declining to criticize this brutal and reckless endangerment of
Palestinian civilians these groups are essentially acting as silent
conspirators in, as PCHR put it so well, the continuation of an abusive
policy that “threaten[s] the lives of Palestinian civilians and violate
international humanitarian law.”
