This past weekend RT Facebook’s ‘like’-meter crossed the three-million mark, giving us a new goal to reach for.
RT raced past such media powerhouses as Reuters, ABC, CBS, Forbes and a number of others, showing itself to be one of the world’s most popular international outlets (without false modesty).
The list of news competitors left behind by RT also includes The Blaze, the Daily Mail, The Mirror, Wired and the Daily Beast.

Here is how we got there.
As the news heated up in September, from the UN General Assembly to the EU refugee crisis, RT remained focused on the biggest and most newsworthy events of the day.
When President Barack Obama and President Vladimir Putin showed the UN and the world that the US and Russia still don’t see eye-to-eye on global issues, RT looked at both leaders’ speeches and picked some of the most telling quotes.

President Putin’s ‘Do you realize what you’ve done?’ speech before the UN General Assembly also came to be one of RT Facebook’s ‘like’ leaders.
News from Syria, the fight against ISIS, as well as the refugee crisis in Europe were also topics that dominated throughout September.
Syrian President Bashar Assad’s interview to Russia’s major news outlets, which touched upon all of those issues, also caused RT’s ‘like’-meter to spike.
Since RT hit two million thumbs-up on Facebook last September, other less serious but still amazing stories have also snagged our viewers’ attention on the way to our new milestone.
Last August, more than 425,000 Facebook users ‘liked’ Vin Diesel daring Putin to complete the ice bucket challenge.
In July 2014, when millions were cheering on the World Cup championship, more than 246,400 people commiserated – in ‘likes’ – with Brazil’s David Luiz, after his team lost to Germany in semi-finals.

RT stays focused on the big picture, making sure that a Royal baby’s birth won’t overshadow what’s really important news worldwide.
While three million ‘likes’ is quite an achievement, RT is not resting on its laurels, and is already aiming for the next million-mark – all by bringing you hard news and cool & trending stuff really worth clicking on and liking.
