The cost of petrol could drop to £1 a litre before Christmas if retailers pass on savings from the lower oil price.
The RAC said there should be a 3p a litre drop for fuel prices and 5p for diesel, taking the average price to 103p and 104p respectively.
Earlier this week, the price of Brent crude oil dropped to its lowest in almost seven years to below $40 (£26.5) a barrel.
