A huge bomb blast has rocked the Turkish capital, Ankara, leaving 34 people dead and at least 125 others injured. A senior security official says the blast was caused by an explosives-laden vehicle. Ambulances have rushed to the scene near the busy Kizilay square that is a key commercial and transport hub close to the city’s embassy area. Several vehicles and a bus have been burnt out.

No group has claimed responsibility for the blast yet. The Turkish interior minister said Ankara is conducting a probe and has obtained important signs and evidence regarding the attack. Efkan Ala added that the name of the organization responsible for the attack will be released on Monday. Earlier, security officials said the initial findings suggest that the attack was carried out by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party or an affiliated group. Meanwhile, Turkey’s pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party has issued a statement condemning the attack. The HDP has frequently been accused of being a wing of the PKK, which is regarded as a terrorist group by the Turkish government.
