TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman on Monday warned against
implementation of a US congressional bill extending anti-Tehran sanctions,
which will violate the JCPOA, unveiling plans for of a package of measures
by Iran in retaliation to such a move.

Iran will not renege on its commitments to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of
Action (JCPOA) as long as the other parties do not violate the deal, Bahram
Qassemi said at a weekly press conference in Tehran, in reaction to the US
congressional decision to extend the Iran Sanctions Act (ISA) for ten more
years.

He also reminded the US not to swim against the current, because the JCPOA
is not a bilateral agreement, but a multilateral deal between Iran and the
Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

The spokesman made it clear that Iran has made preparations for reaction to
any breach of the JCPOA by the US or any other party, saying Tehran has
plans for every scenario.

“Our reaction in the first stage will be a political and legal move, and if
we fail to reach a certain solution to the US breaches, we will press on
with our measures in various fields according to a package we have,” Qassemi
added.

His comments came after the US Senate voted 99-0 to extend the ISA for
another decade. The bill was passed by the House of Representatives nearly
unanimously in November, and congressional aides said they expected
President Barack Obama would sign it.

On Sunday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said implementation of the bill
will draw a decisive response from Tehran, noting that even Obama’s
endorsement of the bill will provoke Iran’s commensurate reaction.
