Weekly Commentary: Next Sunday Face Fateful Decision – Kick Can Or Act
Dr. Aaron Lerner 19 January 2017

The Ministerial Committee on Legislation will debate a bill to annex Ma’aleh
Adumim this Sunday.

Those arguing that annexation should only be done with the approval of the
United States are not being fair to Mr. Trump.

It is one thing for the Trump Administration to protect the Jewish State
from attacks at international forums such as the United Nations Security
Council.

It is quite another to expect the Trump Administration to essentially take
full responsibility for unpopular actions carried out by Israel.

If Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has the discussion postponed then it
may very well happen that 4 or at best 8 years from now we will find
ourselves in pretty much the same situation as we are today and with a
different president in the White House.

it is my fervent hope that the not only the annexation bill is received
favorably by the Ministerial Committee on Legislation, but that instead of
having annexation work its tedious way through the Knesset, that the
Government meets and votes to annex Ma’aleh Adumim quickly followed by an
annexation program that creates conditions on the ground that are
sustainable for the foreseeable future.

I would note that Likud MK Yoav Kish has presented an extremely detailed map
for such a program. A balanced arrangement that addresses the needs of both
Israelis and Palestinians.

In fact, the map is so detailed that one wonders what the source of the map
is.

It is time to shed the false narratives.

There is no demographic issue as no one can force us to absorb Gaza.

Any scheme for “viable security arrangements” for a sovereign Palestinian
state is ludicrous as that Palestinian state would remain sovereign even
after it violated the arrangements.

Involving our Arab moderate “allies” in Israeli-Palestinian matters will
only serve to destabilize them.

The “two state solution” isn’t a “solution” – it’s a farce.

Hopefully the foot draggers won’t have their way this Sunday.
