Projectile”, by Agence France Presse
SUBJECT:Israel responds to Gaza projectile
QUOTE:“No injuries reported”
FULL TEXT:Israel struck a Hamas position in Gaza after a “projectile” fired
from the Palestinian enclave on Monday [6 Feb]crashed in a border area, the
Israeli army said.

“Initial inquiry suggests a projectile launched from the Gaza Strip landed
in an open area,” an army statement said, with no injuries reported.

In response, the army added, “an (Israeli) tank targeted a Hamas post in the
northern Gaza Strip.”

There was no immediate response from Hamas, the Gaza Strip’s Islamist rulers

The last rocket fire from Gaza into Israel occurred in October.

Since the devastating conflict of 2014, Israel and Hamas have observed a
fragile ceasefire along the largely closed border.

Missiles and rockets are occasionally fired at Israel but are often
attributed to other Islamist groups inside empoverished Gaza.

The Israeli army usually retaliates by striking Hamas positions, which it
holds responsible for the territory.

Iran Sanctions”,byNaharnet Newsdesk
SUBJECT:Israel PM re new Iran sanctions

QUOTE:Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday[6 Feb] that all ‘responsible
nations’ should back new sanctions against Iran”

FULL TEXT:Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monda[6 Feb]y that
all “responsible nations” should back new sanctions against Iran, speaking
during a meeting with his British counterpart Theresa May in London.

He said he welcomed US President Donald Trump’s “insistence on new sanctions
against Iran. I think other nations should follow suit, certainly
responsible nation,” as he accused Iran of “provocation after provocation”.

“Iran seeks to annihilate Israel, it says so openly, it seeks to conquer the
Middle East, it threatens Europe, it threatens the West, it threatens the
world,” he said.

“I’d like to talk to you on how we can ensure that Iran’s aggression does
not go unanswered,” he told May.

Trump last week said Iran was now formally “on notice” after a recent
missile test and has voiced opposition to the Iran nuclear deal.

Netanyahu is a fierce opponent of the deal with world powers, including
Britain, in which Iran pledged to curb its nuclear programme in return for
sanctions relief.

A spokeswoman for May said the two leaders would “talk about a range of
security and international issues, including the Middle East peace process.”

She said May would raise Britain’s concern about how the “continued increase
of settlements activity undermines trust.”

There has been a sharp acceleration in Israeli settlement expansion plans
since Trump took office last month, with more than 6,000 new homes announced
in less than a fortnight.

British Minister for the Middle East Tobias Ellwood warned on Wednesday[1
Feb] that the plans made the two-state solution “much harder to achieve”.

Britain voted in favour of a UN Security Council resolution passed in
December demanding a halt to settlement construction. The vote prompted
Israel to temporarily scale back relations.

But Britain refused to sign the final statement of a Middle East peace
conference held in Paris last month that was strongly opposed by Israel.

from Russia”,by Agence France Presse
SUBJECT:Iran imports uranium from Russia

QUOTE:”Iran will receive the final part of a 149-tonne shipment of uranium
from Russia”

FULL TEXT:Iran will receive the final part of a 149-tonne shipment of
uranium from Russia as part of its nuclear deal with world powers, it was
announced on Monday[6 Feb].

“The first shipment arrived on January 26 by plane and the last will arrive
tomorrow, Tuesday[7 Feb],” said Ali Akbar Salehi, head of Iran’s Atomic
Energy Organisation, according to Fars news agency.

Under the nuclear deal signed with world powers in July 2015, Iran has the
right to enrich uranium to a level of 3.5 percent and sell it abroad, as
part of efforts to develop its civilian nuclear programme.

Nuclear weapons require uranium enriched to around 80 percent.

With the latest shipment, which was authorised by the United States and the
other five signatories to the deal, Salehi said Iran has imported 359 tonnes
of concentrated uranium, also known as yellow cake, since the nuclear deal
came into effect in January 2016.

Under the deal, Iran is allowed to run around 5,000 “IR-1″ centrifuges and
has been testing more advanced models that can produce greater quantities of
enriched uranium — all under the strict supervision of the UN atomic
agency.

Last month, Iranian officials said they had successfully tested the
latest-generation IR-8 centrifuge, which has a capacity 20 times the IR-1,
with uranium gas.

SUBJECT:Jordan needs global aid ‘more than ever’

QUOTE:”Kingdom needs to feel that it is not alone in dealing with the
Syrian crisis””

FULL TEXT:AMMAN — Prime Minister Hani Mulki on Sunday[5 Feb] thanked the UK
for its support for the Kingdom to address economic challenges during a
meeting with UK Secretary of State for International Development Priti
Patel, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Mulki, however, said that the UK’s support for Jordan is critical, but the
Kingdom, especially this year, needs aid “more than ever” and commitment by
donors to enhancing the resilience of its economy to continue providing
basic services to citizens and refugees.

Jordan is committed, morally and humanitarianly, to providing necessary
services to its residents but at the same time the Kingdom needs to feel
that it is not alone in dealing with the Syrian crisis, especially since it
is exerting its efforts on behalf of the international community, the prime
minister said.

Mulki said that Jordan looks forward to attracting European investments that
contribute to the economy, provide jobs and allow the Kingdom to benefit
from its deal with the EU to simplify the rules of origin for Jordanian
exports to the unions member states.

For her part, Patel commended the Kingdom for hosting Syrian refugees,
adding that her country realises the economic challenges facing Jordan. She
voiced willingness to help the Kingdom address its economic challenges
through supporting its position with relevant international organisations.
