We’re no strangers to Heffner Performance; on this past season of Tuned, we drove a 900-horsepower version of their Gallardo LP-560, which consists of nothing more than a bolt-on twin-turbo system with factory engine internals and a stock transmission.
Still, all to many commenters replied with a “meh, UGR makes a 1500 horsepower Gallardo, so what?” or “How come you wouuldn’t drive a faster version of the Gallardo than one with just 900 horsepower?”
Obviously these people have no idea how fast a 900 horsepower car truly is, and the top-tier builds are few and far between even for a well known tuner like Heffner. The reason we didn’t drive a faster Gallardo is because at the time, the stupid fast one was in a million pieces in the middle of a massive build (you can see it, engine-less, in the background of the shop video). Well, now it’s all in one piece again, and Heffner took it to a local drag strip for a shakedown run. What they got was more than they bargained for: an 8.72 second pass at 169 mph.
This particular 2008 Superleggera sports a custom set of turbochargers by Tial pushing 24.5 lbs of boost through the fully built engine with upgraded internals. The factory E.Gear system is retained, also with upgraded internals, but get this: you launch the car with a clutch pedal. Once rolling, you just shift with the paddles, like a motorcycle. The AWD system is retained. Though the car hasn’t been on a dyno yet, Jason Heffner estimates the car is making in excess of 1400 horsepower at the wheels. Even crazier? Heffner says the engine is capable of another ten pounds of boost, and he’s re-tuning it for that as you read this.
