Does any job sound better than “Koenigsegg test driver”? Probably not. Even a test driver for Ford sounds like a cool job. But for any of you that saw Matt and Ezra Dyer go to the Ford Proving Grounds know that “test drive” can include barreling at concrete blocks, comparing one’s spinal compression to that of the chassis. Sometimes it just means spending your life driving 30MPH, holding a decibel meter.

But that’s for normal cars. The driver for an exotic car company brings up images of Valentino Balboni, the official tester of Lamborghini, sliding sideways in a Diablo. I’d always imagined these guys hopped out of their cars, threw a note book at the engineers and went into a harem fitted with humidifiers filled with Grand Cru Pinot Noir. Like with so many things in the world, I was wrong.

Koenigsegg’s test driver is a 25 year old named Robert Serwanski. His life isn’t all burnouts and record runs. He  is actually a part of the production line, finalizing the car, which includes a few little things…like putting in the differential. No big deal. You might imagine his credentials include: Winning all the automotive races of 2010, at once. Discovering the Fountain of Youth (and giving it to Schumi). And going down Everest on a snow saucer. He’s done none of those. Basically, he’s good at karting. Trust me, I share your disbelief and fury, but watch the video and it all becomes clear. He’s both engineer and racing driver (and somehow quite personable too). He understands what the car is doing, and knows how to tweak it. He can tune a transmission, or point out the precise reason for under-steer. He understands cars on a level far beyond the normal gear-head or race car driver. Jump to watch.
