(Before It's News)

It’s turning out to be a rather long week for Patrick Brazeau, a Conservative Senator in Canada.

Brazeau, a 37-year-old Algonquin, is no doubt taking his fair share of ribbing after losing a charity boxing match on March 31 in Ottawa against Justin Trudeau, a Liberal Member of Parliament (MP).

As part of their pre-fight bets, Brazeau found himself getting portions of his lengthy hair chopped off on Monday, in front of cameras on Parliament Hill. Trudeau, the son of the late Pierre Trudeau, a former prime minister of Canada, had the honor of taking the first cut off Brazeau’s ponytail. But he only took off a small portion, allowing a stylist to finish the haircut.

Perhaps the biggest sting of all, however, will be the fact that Brazeau, as the fight loser, has to wear a Liberal Party hockey jersey for the remainder of this week.

The 40-year-old Trudeau was able to defeat Brazeau with a technical knockout in the third round of their bout. The match was part of the Fight for the Cure, an annual fund-raising event in the nation’s capital.

More than $230,000 was raised from the event, with proceeds going to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation.

Neither politician had participated in a boxing match before. But prior to the fight, Brazeau was confident he could defeat Trudeau, in part because of his martial arts background; he has a black belt in karate.

During Saturday’s fight, Brazeau came out as the aggressor and it appeared he might even end the bout in the opening minute.

Trudeau, however, survived that initial onslaught. And as Brazeau appeared to tire quickly, Trudeau was able to successfully land his share of punches. The referee stopped the fight in the third and final round, sensing Brazeau was unfit to continue.

Brazeau has already asked for a rematch next year. But Trudeau said he is not interested in another bout.
