(Before It's News)

Outside Progressive Field in Cleveland, a small group gathered Thursday to protest the Indians’ nickname and mascot, Chief Wahoo, a protest that’s been taking place for the past three decades.

But according to Robert Roche, executive director of Cleveland’s American Indian Education Center and a Chirichau Apache tribal member, says his group receives angrier shouts (“Chief Wahoo Rules!”, “You killed Custer” or just “Shut up!” were just a few of the taunts) the closer it gets to game time, as fans file out of nearby bars.

“If you stand here long enough,” Roche told Local10.com, “you’ll see that racism is alive and well in Cleveland.”
