The “Cost” Of Freedom (Video)

Well, LPDOC has the organ grinder and the monkey out again soliciting funds- this time it’s about “incurring significant expenses” related to the “clemency drive”.
I stay pretty busy throughout the year, but when winter approaches the basic needs of warm shelter and adequate heat become the priority- important also to see that roofs don’t leak and there’s actually glass in the window as well.
Plumbing needs to be insulated, but often enough I find myself laying under a house with the wind howling about replacing pipes that have frozen due to a lack of insulation- weather stripping or rehanging a door that the wind creeps through.
It is this time of year more than any other that emphasizes the poverty and vulnerability of the nations, it is also the time of year I’m inclined to think a little more about the money that has gone to Peltier’s “defense” and the good it could have done elsewhere.
Caring about the plight and needs of others should be a year round consideration, it isn’t something to be turned on and off at Xmas time with the third on the list afterthought of a holiday gift drive after soliciting donations for a bogus cause.
Every penny that has gone into the Peltier coffers represents to me a meal a child, elder, or pregnant woman missed, warm shoes and clothing, glass for that broken window, perhaps even medical attention or medication……that’s not something a “warriors” conscience could allow or participate in.
Since these Hollywood “celebrities” are so concerned about “justice” maybe they should get together and foot the entire bill for Peltier -they can afford it, we can’t. Maybe Last Real Indians with their AIM centric self could do the Indiegogo thing again and
in doing so garner some attention, add to the resume.
“Freedom” for Peltier? What about the freedom of food on the table and a decent home to live in for our children? How about a life for them where winter isn’t a threat, a time of misery?
By the looks of it Peltier hasn’t missed any meals or trips to the commissary.
