Boehner was elected with only 216 votes as 26 congressmen did not show up for vote

27 Republicans voted against Boehner, 1 voted -present and 3 Republicans: Gowdy, Webster and Yoho did not show up.

Boehner was able to get reelected with only 216 votes, less than majority, as they counted majority of ones that were present and only 408 were present. One, Grimm, resigned and 26 did not show up. Most of the ones, who did not show up, were democrats, who went to Mario Cuomo’s funeral. If they were to show up, they would have voted for Pelosi and that would have forced the second round of vote. Today Republicans made modern times history by casting the highest number of votes against the sitting Speaker of the House
