President Obama has granted a last minute request of Attorney General Eric Holder to exert his executive privilege over Fast and Furious documents, according to the Justice Department.
However, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee is thought to be planning to continue with its meeting on the contempt resolution anyway.
The likelihood of a contempt vote had risen after Holder and Republican Darrell Issa, failed to reach agreement on Tuesday in a 20-minute meeting at the Capitol.

Issa wanted the documents immediately.
Holder told reporters he would not turn over documents on the gun-smuggling probe called Operation Fast and Furious unless Issa agreed to another congressional briefing on the Justice Department material.
Holder wanted an assurance from Issa that the transfer of the records would satisfy a subpoena from the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which Issa heads.
Holder had said he was prepared to turn over documents detailing how the department arrived at the conclusion that federal agents engaged in a risky tactic called gun-walking.
