Obama’s Surgeon General Pick: Guns Are A Public Health Issue
Murthy’s organization calls for doctors to interrogate patients about guns in the home

Dr. Vivek Hallegere Murthy, the man Obama wants to be America’s next Surgeon General, is a rabid anti-Second Amendment ideologue who believes firearms ownership is a public health issue. Murthy is the president and co-founder of Doctors for America, an organization that melds healthcare and support for gun control legislation.
Following Sandy Hook and attempts by Obama and Democrats in Congress to impose serious restrictions on the Second Amendment, Doctors for America demanded further erosion of the constitutional right to own a firearm, “including stronger gun laws, making sure doctors can counsel patients about gun safety, and tracking data on gun-related deaths and injuries just like any other public health issue.”
Firearms, according to the organization, are a plague threatening society. “For few other issues would we tolerate this state of affairs. If tens of thousands of Americans died every year of an infectious disease and there was no policy response, there would be a public outcry. If research clearly demonstrated that there were simple solutions to prevent all these deaths and still nothing changed, public health experts would be furious. It is time for us to recognize that we must take action to save thousands of lives and demand change from our politicians.”
It calls for doctors to interrogate patients, including minors, about guns in the home. If the patient admits a family member exercises his or her constitutional right to own firearms, the organization wants to “counsel them appropriately about safety measures.”

Maybe as a Doctor he should be doing something more useful like checking Obams DNA to make sure he’s not Adolf Hitlers offspring!

Maybe the Doctor should spend some time studying HISTORY!
Maybe the doctors should be more concerned about regulating automobiles. Cars kill more people each year than guns do. Or maybe they should try to ban alcohol. I won’t even mention drunk drivers. In any event, for a doctor to counsel or advise anyone on gun safety or ownership is what is known as a “boundary violation” in the medical field. A medical license does not give you the right to ask such questions, or dispense such advise. So when your doctor brings it up simply tell them it is a “boundary violation” and you will not discuss the issue. They must stop then or risk a complaint with the AMA….
How about mandating sunscreen? More people die a year from skin cancer than from guns. We could fine anybody with a sunburn! Fall asleep by the pool too long, pay the piper. Where does the madness end? I’m for anybody over 50 wearing helmets and hip pads while shopping at the grocery store! That will save some nasty falls!
Stop the big government lie masquerading as your protector!
And…. Drs. kill more people than guns do every year also, so maybe he should look in the mirror.

Restricting guns is not a bad idea since people don’t exactly use them wisely.

Breathe of fresh air, that is about the most asinine thing I’ve heard. Restricting my G-d given Right to protect and defend myself, home, and family, not to mention the ability to hunt for food to help supply meat for mine, and neighbor’s table is what totalitarians and fascist dictators believe is necessary to maintain control over “their” perceived utopian world.
Breathe, yours has taken on a repulsive foul stench to it. Gargle more with personal sovereignty rights and good ol’ common sense, and I do believe you too can overcome your affliction.

He has ZERO authority, knowledge to speak to things he knows nothing about.
God given rights, absolutely, Constitutional rights absolutely. His ability to effect change, only in weak willed sloths who know neither victory or defeat
As a doctor maybe he should focus his attention on the 100,000 Americans who die each year from preventable medical mistakes. Or perhaps the 250,000 Americans who die each year from legally prescribed pharmaceutical drugs. Or perhaps the plague of antibiotic resistant infections killing Americans in our top hospitals. Maybe I just don’t understand the role of the US surgeon General.
