Rev. Franklin Graham, the outspoken son of evangelist Billy Graham, reacted to Barack Obama’s recent National Prayer Breakfast appearance with a personal message on his Facebook page. As Western Journalism reported, Obama attempted to equate the current terrorism being waged by radical Islamists to the actions of Christians throughout history.
The remarks have been criticized by numerous sources, with Graham echoing the dismay many Christians felt upon hearing Obama’s equivalency rhetoric.
“Today at the National Prayer Breakfast,” Graham wrote, “the President implied that what ISIS is doing is equivalent to what happened over 1000 years ago during the Crusades and the Inquisition.”
He then addressed Obama personally, acknowledging that purported Christians have used Jesus’ name “to accomplish evil things for their own desires” in the past. He then pointed out a major difference between those who corrupt Christ’s teachings and those who follow the example set by Mohammad.
“But Jesus taught peace, love and forgiveness,” Graham continued. “He came to give His life for the sins of mankind, not to take life. Mohammad on the contrary was a warrior and killed many innocent people. True followers of Christ emulate Christ – true followers of Mohammed emulate Mohammed.”
Graham received overwhelmingly supportive comments in response to his post, which came just hours after another message of hope prior to the annual breakfast.
