House Speaker John Boehner has just announced that he will visit Jerusalem later this month, his first trip to Israel since Barack Obama became president.
A post on the Israeli news source Haaretz notes that the visit by America’s third-highest-ranking elected official is another very public stance against President Obama and his critique of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This latest poke in Obama’s eye comes as the administration reaches out to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
“Boehner’s show of support for Jerusalem is in opposition to the U.S. president advancing a new foreigh policy at the expense of a key ally and despite Congress’ objection.”

At the same time, the White House spokesman said, Obama feels that, when the Iranian leader calls for “death to America,” that’s all the more reason to want to make a deal about Iran’s nuclear weapons program.
