The president was speaking publicly in Cuba yesterday when he indicated his thought that Congress’s role in the pending Iranian nuclear deal was to be “limited” and then further indicated Congress should simply wait for him to present the deal to them after it has already been concluded.
He went on to complain that Congress had become “too partisan” and was unfairly criticizing his administration’s seeming weakness in representing not only the United States but the Middle East’s best interests in allowing Iran, the #1 state sponsor of terrorism in the world, full access to nuclear weapons development. It should also be noted the complaints from Congress are bi-partisan, with a growing number of Democrats now openly raising concerns.
Make no mistake, Barack Obama’s complaints directly reflect his unhappiness with having to govern in the American system of checks and balances. This is far from the first time he has issued such thoughts. He did so when he admitted to a sense of jealousy over how rulers in China can more easily “get things done.”
THe president said much the same to political supporters who wanted him to steamroll his agenda, and has gone so far as to describe the U.S. Constitution as something which “constrains” him from doing what he would like.
(That particularly reference was his desire to confiscate citizens’ guns.) Last month he complained to a foreign leader about America’s First Amendment rights, apparently unhappy over the rise in anti-Obama political ads permeating television, radio, and the Internet.
