According to various sources President Obama maybe about to announce a new executive action on gun control that would expand background checks on gun purchases.
According to the Guardian:
Barack Obama’s resolve to bypass Congress to tighten gun controls is likely to target loopholes around firearms bought at gun shows and on the internet, campaigners believe.
The president’s adviser, Valerie Jarrett, revealed this week that Obama has directed his team to finalise “in short order” recommendations that will keep guns out of the wrong hands, including expanded background checks.
With The Hill commenting:
Obama has been holding meetings with gun control advocates to gauge their support and solicit ideas. He met last Friday with former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), who survived a gunshot to the head during a 2011 mass shooting in Tucson.
A proposal Obama is reportedly considering would classify more sellers as high-volume dealers, which would close a legal loophole that allows many sales conducted online or at gun shows to skirt existing background check provisions.
And Real Clear Politics stated:
“That is why the president has asked experts to scrub the law, to search for actions the administration can take using executive authority.”
So will there be a so called ‘gun grab’ like the American right wing have been screaming about since Obama came into power, or just a simple tightening of existing regulations?
What do think?
